MSC Lirica In Happier Times, Damage Minimal, Ship to be repaired.

On Friday 3.12.21, at 3:45 PM, a fire was reported aboard MSC Cruises' MSC Lirica. The isolated fire started in a lifeboat and was extinguished by 7:00 PM Friday. The MSC Lirica was in warm layup in Corfu and moored dockside with a crew of 51. With the aid of local fireboats the blaze was quickly controlled. Isolated to a fiberglass lifeboat on deck 6, the flames shot from the lifeboat and charred the ship's superstructure as well as billowed dense black smoke over the harbor. The damage to the Lirica will be accessed and MSC Cruises has started an investigation of the root cause of the fire.

The MSC Lirica was launched in August 2002. Having a length of 824 feet, a weight of 65,591 GRT, the MSC Lirica was lengtehed by inserting a 72ft mid-section into the ship in 2014-15. Her passenger capacity is 2679 passengers double occupancy.
