Costa Cruises resumes service from Italy on the Costa Diadema and Costa Deliziosa
Costa Cruises will restart cruising with two ships departing from Italian ports beginning Sept. 6, 2020.
The Costa Deliziosa will offer weekly cruises from Trieste on Sept. 6, 13, 20 and 27, visiting five destinations in southern Italy, including Bari and Brindisi in Puglia, Corigliano-Rossano in Calabria, and Siracusa and Catania in Sicily.
The Costa Diadema will follow on Sept. 19 from Genoa, calling at Italian ports in the western Mediterranean, including Civitavecchia/Rome, Naples, Palermo, Cagliari and La Spezia.
The one-week itineraries are being reserved exclusively for Italian guests.
After going into administration in early July, Cruise and Maritime Voyages may re-emerge and sail again. The cruise line which was handed over to a 3rd party company to liquidate its assets and pay creditors but bad economic conditions and lack of interested parties has left the liquidators with few options.
At this point the former owner of the cruise line has purchased the company name, past passenger list, office equipment, computers and other assets. In addition, he is seeking financing to secure a ship(s) to eventually restart operations.
Saga's new Spirit of Adventure is inching closer to her November debut following a successful conveyance on the Ems River.
Saga's second newbuild, a 1,000-guest ship, departed Meyer Werft earlier in the week and is now in Emden, the Netherlands, where final outfitting and sea trials are set to take place.
Seabourn Cruises announced it will extend its pause in operations for three of their ships. Impacted vessels include the Seabourn Ovation, Seabourn Encore, and Seabourn Quest. As this time the ships are expected to resume operations as follows:
In addition, Seabourn is also announced a revised delivery date for its new ultra-luxury purpose-built expedition ship, Seabourn Venture, which will now debut December 1, 2021. Seabourn stated the Seabourn Venture’s delivery was impacted by shipyard closure and delays in the supply chain for outfitting the vessel.
Cruise operations pauses were driven by port closures, lack of demand and coronavirus concerns globally.
Silversea Cruises’ Silver Moon completed sea trials in August off the coast of Italy sailing between Fincantieri’s Ancona and Trieste Shipyard. Expected to be delivered in late October, 2020 work will continue on the final touches to the luxury cruise ship over the next 2 months.
