Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Gem left her her long time lay-up berth in Aruba and headed North. The Norwegian Gem spent the late Summer / fall in Aruba along side her sister the Norwegian Sun. The Norwegian Gem and Norwegian Sun were at the passenger ship terminal in Aruba, away from the hurricane active Florida / northern Caribbean. (Prior to being docked in Aruba, the Gem was idle in Jacksonville, Florida.)
The Norwegian Gem left Aruba in late October and arrived in Boston, Massachusetts on November 9, 2020. The ship arrived at the Boston Ship Repair facilities where she underwent an 11-day routine dry-docking. The dry-docking was planned pre-covid but was scheduled for later in the month. The Norwegian Gem left the shipyard early on November 20, 2020. She is expected to arrive in Charleston, South Carolina early today (11/23).
It is unclear how long or where the Norwegian Gem will dock in Charleston and what her next port of call is, but it is promising that the ship may be one of the early contenders to return to service for Norwegian Cruise Line.
