Carnival Cruises' rust streaked Carnival Victory sailed under her own power from the Spain's Navantia Puerto Real Shipyard where she arrived on March 12, 2020 to a lay-up berth (previously occupied by the Carnival Fascination) at the Navantia Cadiz Shipyard. The transfer happened this past weekend.
The Carnival Victory was to undergo a $200 Million dollar transformation into the Carnival Radiance and sail a series of cruises from New York to New England/Canada; or the Caribbean. Demolition work has begun when the ship left FLorida on March 4, 2020 enroute to Spain, but work came to a halt when COVID-19 struck Spain and caused the shipyard to halt work. In addition, die to financial issues, Carnival Cruises temporarily de-funded the transformation. Since the work has stopped, the Carnival Victory was removed from the drydock has spent the last 4 months at a pier at the shipyard before the latest transfer this past weekend.
Carnival has expressed an interest to complete the major upgrade BUT said that they are still choosing a shipyard to complete the work.
