Shorter New England / Canada cruises from New York (usually 4, 5 or 7 days), call at northeastern Canadian ports. By far, my favorite port is Halifax. Halifax combines the mixture of a metropolian city, with a touch of European flair and history. The city has museums, forts, shopping and more.

About an hour's bus ride from Halifax into the country country side can take tourists to Peggy's Cove. This great Canadian fishing village borders the Atlantic Ocean with gigantic boulders edging the park. The high point of the visit to Peggy's Cove is climbing on these boulders as well as ascending to the top of the Peggy's Cove Lighthouse. The nearby fishing village with its brightly colored houses, boats, nets, cages and nautical artifacts provides insight into a real working fishing village. In perfect weather, the photo opportunities and natural beauty is incredible.
