Two luxury botique cruise lines brought passengers to New York as a port of call - but brought theiir ships into the remote cruise terminals in the harbor.
Ponant Cruises - providing a luxury yacht like experience, brought their 132 cabin LeBoreal into Brooklyn - where she tied up at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook, Brooklyn. I am not sure why this cruise terminal was chosen, since there was availability at the Manhattan cruise terminal and the Ponant international guests would have had easier access the City's attractions.
The 2010 built, 10,700 ton, French registered, LeBoreal arrived in New York on Thursday morning and sailed Friday evening at approximatley 7:15 PM. Instead of backing out of the berth, the LeBoreal sailed around Governer's Island passing the tip of Manhattan. She then proceeded to the Statue of Liberty and eventually headed out to sea.
Azamara Club Cruises - Azamara Quest called at Cape Liberty, Bayonne, New Jersey on a charter cruise which orginated in Canada. The Azamara Quest arrived on Saturday morning at approximately 9:00 AM and will sail on Sunday. The Azamara Quest offers exclusive luxury cruises to world-wide exotiic destinations and a call in New York is very unique.
The Azamara Quest, at one time, sailed for Reniassance Cruises but has been extensively refit over the years. The Azamara Quest was built in 2000 and weighs in at 30,277 Tons - modest in today's world of mega-ships. It is believed that the ship called in Cape Liberty because all of the cruise berths elsewhere in the port were filled AND that the Cape Liberty Facility is associated with Azamara Club Cruises' parent company - Royal Caribbean.
Luxury operator Azamara Club Cruises Provided Motorcoaches to tranfer passengers between the cruise terminal and key Manhattan locations. The Azamara Quest is registered in Malta.
