November 10, 2014 – Royal Caribbean International's new Quantum of the Seas sailed into New York during the pre-dawn hours.
The Quantum of the Seas took a southerly transatlantic path arriving off Lakewood New Jersey at around 2:00 AM before turning northward on the approach to New York. Arriving at the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge at 5:30 AM the Quantum sailed to just off the Statue of Liberty and lower Manhattan. Turning toward the bridge again, she remainder idle in place until the sun started to rise.
After posing for pictures, the Quantum headed to Cape Liberty Cruise Port, Bayonne, New Jersey where she tied up around 6:45 AM accompanied by a fireboat.
The Quantum of the Seas is quite impressive and in some ways offers a new cruise ship design - somewhat moving away from the solid boxy designed ships of today.
Just as a side note: It does appear that the Quantum did need some repair work to her forward bow thrusters after arriving in New York. Divers were working underwater on the ship's bow/thruster area this evening.
