January 18, 2015 – Cunard's Queen Elizabeth arrived in New York at 11:00 AM on January 18th, 2015 opposed to her originally scheduled time of 6:00 AM. The Queen Elizabeth arrived late due to rough seas encountered on her transatlantic voyage from Southampton, England.
Unfortunately the weather in the New York Metropolitan area wasn't much better with sleet and frozen roadways. Many communities faced hazardous driving conditions and many roads were blocked by accidents. Visibility was quite poor as the ship sailed into the harbor.
Cunard Line decided that New York was such a special port on the ship's world cruise, that Cunard extend the ship's stay in New York an additional 24 hours.
The Queen Elizabeth departed New York on January 19th, 2015 instead of the 18th. The Queen Elizabeth was on her way to Fort Lauderdale Florida. Cunard Line paid to alter airfares or arrange hotel rooms for guests who were now joining the Queen Elizabeth one day later in Fort Lauderdale.
In order to get the Queen Elizabeth's schedule back on track, a call in Nassau scheduled for January 20th was cancelled and the ship sailed directly to her next port of call.
